The Royal Mint unveils unique commemorative 50p design for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee

The Royal Mint has unveiled the design of a new 50p which will be issued in 2022 to celebrate Her Majesty the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. It is the first time that a royal event has been celebrated on the tails side of a fifty pence, with a design that has been personally approved by the Queen.

Trusted by monarchs for 1,100 years, The Royal Mint has struck circulating coins for the Queen throughout her reign and celebrated royal milestones, including the Silver, Gold and Diamond Jubilees, on a collection of commemorative crown pieces. The unique Platinum Jubilee 50p is a fitting tribute to a remarkable reign and will be available as a collectable coin in early 2022.

Marking 70 days to go until the anniversary of the Queen’s accession to the throne in 1952, The Royal Mint has unveiled imagery of the new design. The coin will feature the number 70, representing the number of years on the throne, and the Queen’s cypher framed within the zero, at the heart of the design.

“In recognition of the landmark occasion, this is the first time a royal milestone has been commemorated on a 50p coin and is a fitting celebration for Britain’s longest reigning monarch.”

New and current collectors can register their interest now for the Platinum Jubilee 50p, which will feature a special commemorative obverse design, at The Royal Mint.

The bespoke Platinum Jubilee obverse will be unveiled in 2022 across one of the largest collections made by The Royal Mint, which will also include a commemorative £5 crown.

2021 American Eagle Bullion Production Completed; 2022 Production Underway

U.S. Mint Final production of all 2021-dated American Eagle Gold and Silver Bullion Coins has been completed, and production of 2022-dated American Eagle Gold and Silver Bullion coins has started.

The U.S. Mint has allocated final quantities of 2021-dated American Eagle Gold Bullion coins to its Authorized Purchasers (APs), with the stipulation that their purchase commitments must be completed by the end of the calendar year. Accordingly, the sales of 2021-dated American Eagle Gold Bullion Coins can continue until the end of the calendar year.

The Mint will make one final allocation of 2021-dated American Eagle Silver Bullion Coins on Monday, November 29, 2021, after which no additional 2021-dated American Eagle Silver Bullion Coins will be issued.

2022-dated American Eagle Gold and Silver Bullion Coins will first be offered to the Mint’s AP network on Monday, January 3, 2022.

NGC Scratch-Resistant Holders Temporarily Unavailable

NGC has temporarily suspended offering Scratch-Resistant Holders, effective immediately. Unfortunately, the supply chain issues that have impacted many businesses have similarly affected NGC’s ability to maintain a sufficient inventory of Scratch-Resistant Holders. All other NGC holders remain fully stocked.

NGC anticipates that the Scratch-Resistant Holder will be back in stock in six to nine months. In the meantime, NGC will encapsulate coins using its flagship EdgeView Holder, and a refund will be provided for all Scratch-Resistant Holder requests. The EdgeView Holder provides a crystal-clear display using museum-quality materials, while advanced security features add an extra layer of protection.

The EdgeView Holder and all other NGC holders are fully stocked and there is currently no risk of potential disruptions to this supply. NGC is taking steps to build additional manufacturing capabilities to ensure that its holder production keeps up with the tremendous growth in demand for its expert and impartial services.

NGC will also be encapsulating standard-sized coins submitted through the Unlimited Value WalkThrough, WalkThrough and Express grading tiers with the EdgeView Holder during this time. If a Scratch-Resistant Holder upgrade is requested while this service is suspended, any additional fee paid will be credited back to the submitter’s NGC account.

‘Una and the Lion’ Leads NGC-certified SINCONA British Collection

A phenomenal collection of more than 500 rare English coins certified by NGC is being offered this month by SINCONA. The auction includes gold rarities spanning 600 years of history, including an example of the beloved “Una and the Lion,” a coin issued to celebrate the young Queen Victoria. Bidding is already underway for SINCONA Auction 72: SINCONA British Collection Part 1, scheduled for November 21.

The Una and the Lion, which is graded NGC PF 63 Ultra Cameo, is being offered as part of a 15-coin Great Britain 1839 Proof Set. Widely regarded as the most beautiful British coin, its obverse shows the young queen while the reverse shows her as the character of Lady Una guiding a lion in a scene inspired by Edmund Spenser’s epic poem “The Faerie Queene.” The lot has a starting price of CHF 250,000 (about $275,000).

The coins in the auction were issued under more than two dozen monarchs, from Edward III in the mid-1300s to the current ruler, Queen Elizabeth II. To celebrate these special coins, NGC encapsulated them with a special label that combines the British flag and the Matterhorn, a Swiss mountain that represents the highest level of achievement.

PNG Now Accepting 2022 Awards Nominations

(Temecula, California) November 15, 2021 – The Professional Numismatists Guild (www.PNGdealers.org) is now accepting nominations for its 2022 awards, according to PNG Executive Director Robert Brueggeman.

“The PNG publicly recognizes outstanding achievements in the hobby and the profession by honoring deserving recipients with prestigious awards. We cordially welcome and strongly encourage nominations from all collectors and dealers,” said Brueggeman.

The award winners will be announced during the 2022 PNG Day banquet on April 27, 2022 to be held in conjunction with the Central States Numismatic Society convention in the Chicago suburb of Schaumburg, Illinois.

Award nominations must be submitted by February 15, 2022 and should be sent directly to the appropriate PNG award category officials. The categories and contacts are:

Abe Kosoff Founders Award: Presented to a PNG member-dealer with steadfast dedication to the entire numismatic community and who has made a significant contribution to the Guild or to the numismatic fraternity in general the past year. The award is named after PNG’s Founding President who spearheaded the 1953 launch of the organization. Committee Chairs: Richard Weaver and Wayde Milas. Sol Kaplan Award: To recognize efforts and contributions in combatting crimes against the numismatic community, this award is presented to someone who has given their time to rid the profession of fraud and thievery.
