Legend Rare Coin Auctions to Ring in 2019 with Beverly Hills Regency Auction
Regency Auction 30 to feature important Buffalo Nickel, Barber Half Dollar, Type, and Morgan Dollar collections.
(Lincroft, NJ- January 2, 2019)—After a year of strong growth, Legend Rare Coin Auctions begins 2019 with its most valuable January Regency Auction ever. Due to the PCGS Members Show schedule, the 30th Regency Auction is also the firm’s first “stand alone” auction. The auction will take place on Sunday, January 27 at the Beverly Hills Marriott hotel (the former Crowne Plaza, site of many numismatic auctions over the years).
“Everyone is accustomed to Regency Auctions being associated with the PCGS Members’ Only shows,” explains Julie Abrams, president of Legend Rare Coin Auctions. “This year, the first PCGS is not scheduled until March and because of all the fantastic consignments we had received, we decided to conduct a standalone auction in January. Our Regency Auction will be one of the auctions that takes place in Southern California just prior to the Long Beach expo, a tradition that goes back generations.”
All told, 491 lots from important holdings including the following collections:
- The Maybach Collection-a fresh to the market collection of Buffalo nickels, all graded MS65 by PCGS, and put together mostly 15-20 years ago by a dedicated specialist collector;
- The Formula 1 Collection-a partial set of some of the FINEST Barber half dollars known to collectors, all graded by PCGS. Featuring pedigrees like Norweb, Eliasberg, Price, Duckor, Akers, and Shireman, these coins will attract strong bidding;
- The Star City CAC Morgan Dollar Collection—a top-10 PCGS Registry Set of Morgan Dollars, with every coin being verified by CAC. Each coin was hand selected for a high end luster, smooth cheek, and bold strike.
- The Sand Hill and Symphony Collections—two collections of assorted type coins and gold that play off each other quite nicely. Clearly selected for strong eye appeal and quality, these coins will delight all collectors.
“It was such a privilege cataloging these great collections for the Regency Auction,” stated Greg Cohen, Senior Numismatist. “Throughout the process, I feel like I have gotten to know the collectors personally—you learn a lot about them by looking at what they have chosen to place into their collections. After having cataloged the vast majority of the coins in the auction, I can say that each coin in these collections was carefully selected for eye appeal and quality.”

Veteran dealer: Gold’s fundamentals never looked better
(Temecula, California) January 2, 2019 – “Gold is starting 2019 with increasing price support and growing demand. I believe gold will reach its next major resistance level of $1,300 very soon, and after a short period of time should break above,” stated Barry Stuppler of Woodland Hills, California, President of the Accredited Precious Metals Dealers (https://apmddealers.org), a division of the Professional Numismatists Guild (https://pngdealers.org).
“The gold fundamentals have never looked better. Interest rates, such the U.S. 10-Year Treasury Note which is under to 2.7%, and the U.S. dollar are dropping. Demand is increasing from hedge funds, ETFs and central banks. While the global equity markets remain a question mark, we are seeing increasing gold demand from stock investors moving to a proven safe haven from the volatility they are seeing,” explained Stuppler.
“As global equity markets continue to move lower, gold buying in Asia, the Middle East and Europe is increasing as the price moves above $1,285 per ounce. January has an excellent history of showing higher gold prices, and last year gold hit its highest price in January,” he pointed out.
All nationwide members of the Temecula, California-based Professional Numismatists Guild Accredited Precious Metals Dealer (PNG-APMD) program undergo a background check, must adhere to a strict code of ethics in the buying and selling of numismatic items and guarantee the authenticity of the numismatic merchandise they sell.

DLRC announces the addition of Paul Nugget to the team
David Lawrence Rare Coins (DLRC) is pleased to announce that world-renowned gold coin specialist Paul Nugget has joined the company as a new affiliate. Paul, a native New Yorker, will remain in the Empire State, serving his existing clients as well as helping DLRC serve a wider base of customers.
Nugget’s interest in coins started at eight years old and has propelled him to be the renowned gold coin specialist that he is today. He took a break during adolescence but returned to the hobby after finishing school at Hunter College. After getting a job at a coin shop in July 1969, his knowledge and expertise grew and led to a career in professional numismatics that has lasted almost 50 years. Although Nugget’s numismatic fluency covers all U.S. coins, he is most well-known for his specialty in U.S. gold coinage. Having worked with some of the world’s largest gold importers, one of the largest coin wholesalers, as well as the auction house, Stack’s-Bowers, Paul has seen it all and been involved in trading over a billion dollars in U.S. gold coins. Having purchased and sold pieces of practically all classic U.S. gold coins ranging from 1795 to 1933, both federal and pioneer, he is widely known amongst those in the coin industry as one of the foremost experts in his field. While he has a general disdain for Morgan Dollars, his knowledge covers all realms of numismatics.
After venturing solo in the coin business in 2014 and following a brief period of retirement, Nugget decided to join forces with his former mentee and now close colleague, John Brush, the President of DLRC. Brush stated, “I worked with Paul for three years at my first full-time place of employment, Spectrum Numismatics, and Paul took me under his wing in my first week on the job. Not only did he give me a loupe that I still treasure, he was always there to offer support, knowledge, and advice.” Brush continued, “Paul not only became a mentor to me, he also became a friend, and we have kept in touch as such over the years. When Paul first told me that he wanted to get back into the business, I immediately jumped on the opportunity and am thrilled to work with him again.”
According to Paul, “David Lawrence was a unique opportunity for me to do something that was slightly different than my past professional stops. To work with a wider range of collectors and to assist with the collection of D.L. Hansen was a special opportunity, and I am excited to work with John and the fantastic team at DLRC.”
Paul is also a long-time member of the PNG (Professional Numismatists Guild) as well as many other numismatic organizations, and both Nugget, in all his endeavors, and DLRC as a whole are known for their expertise in the hobby and have devoted themselves to the principles of the Professional Numismatists Guild (PNG): honesty, integrity, and reliability, and will continue to provide great value, high quality and unsurpassed customer service.
With Nugget’s enthusiasm and over 50 years of experience, the DLRC will continue to make new advances in the Numismatic market as their offerings become more diverse and they are able to offer a deeper and more thorough variety of U.S. gold. Nugget and DLRC are committed to being there for every customer and will offer the best they can provide.
