WASHINGTON — Today, the U.S. Department of the Treasury announced Alison Doone as the new Acting Director of the U.S. Mint. Doone previously served as Chief Administrative Officer at the Mint. Doone’s first day as Acting Director will be on October 1 as Director David J. Ryder leaves the bureau to pursue new opportunities.
“I’m excited to serve the U.S. Mint as Acting Director to help it continue its important work,” said Alison Doone. “I look forward to working alongside the devoted Mint employees across the country and supporting our ongoing efforts to ensure that we are operating efficiently and producing quality products for the American people.”
“We thank Director Ryder for his dedicated service to the U.S. Mint and welcome Alison to serve in this role,” said Deputy Secretary Wally Adeyemo. “It is essential for the U.S. Mint to continue its critical operations to produce our coinage amid increased demand and safeguard American assets. I have confidence that Alison’s leadership will help us carry out this mission.”
“It was an honor to serve as the 34th and the 39th Director of the U.S. Mint,” said Director David J. Ryder. “During this global pandemic, the U.S. Mint has showcased American excellence. Not only did the Mint meet its primary mission of producing circulating coinage, but it generated near-record revenue by introducing wildly popular numismatic products at a time in which many of its peers around the world ceased operations. Doone, a member of the Senior Executive Service since 2004, has served as the Mint’s Chief Administrative Officer since March 2021.
Before beginning her work with the Mint, Ms. Doone served as the Chief Financial Officer for the Department of Education from August 2018 to March 2021; Deputy Chief Financial Officer at the Department of Energy from January 2013 to August 2018; Chief Financial Officer at the General Services Administration from September 2010 to January 2013; Chief and Deputy Chief Financial Officer at the Internal Revenue Service from August 2005 to September 2010; and, Deputy Assistant Administrator for the Drug Enforcement Administration from June 2004 to August 2005. Prior to her appointments in the SES, Ms. Doone served as a Senior Level (SL), Deputy Staff Director for Management at the Federal Election Commission from November 1999 to June 2004.
Ms. Doone holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from Pennsylvania State University and a Master’s degree in finance from the University of Michigan.

WASHINGTON – The 2021 United States Mint (Mint) Uncirculated Coin Set® will be available for purchase on September 28 at noon (EDT). This year, the set contains two folders with seven coins each—one with coins from the United States Mint at Philadelphia and the other with coins from the United States Mint at Denver. The following coins are included along with a Certificate of Authenticity:
One America the Beautiful Quarters® Program Coin honoring the Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site in Alabama—the final coin in the program.
The reverse (tails) depicts a Tuskegee Airman pilot suiting up to join the fight during World War II with the Moton Field control tower in the background. The pilot looks upward with pride and confidence as two P-51 Mustangs pass overhead. The inscription “THEY FOUGHT TWO WARS” is arced across the top as a reference to the dual battles the Tuskegee Airmen fought—fascism abroad and racial discrimination at home. United States Mint Artistic Infusion Program (AIP) Designer Chris Costello created the design, which United States Mint Medallic Artist Phebe Hemphill sculpted.
The obverse (heads) depicts a restored 1932 portrait of George Washington by sculptor John Flanagan. Inscriptions are “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and “QUARTER DOLLAR.”
One General George Washington Crossing the Delaware Quarter
The reverse features General George Washington commanding his troops through the overnight crossing of the ice-choked Delaware River prior to the Battle of Trenton during the American Revolutionary War. Inscriptions are “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “CROSSING THE DELAWARE,” and “QUARTER DOLLAR.” AIP Designer Benjamin Sowards created the design, which was sculpted by former Medallic Artist Michael Gaudioso.
The obverse design marks a return to the familiar depiction of George Washington by John Flanagan as it appeared on the quarter from 1932 to 1998. It was modified for the 50 State Quarters and the America the Beautiful Quarters® Programs. In this depiction, Washington’s portrait is larger, with higher relief. Inscriptions are “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and “2021.”
One Native American $1 Coin
The theme of the 2021 coin is Native Americans in the U.S. Military. The reverse features eagle feathers, which were traditionally earned in battle or by performing a brave deed. Eagle feathers are revered and respected, receiving the utmost care and handling, and are to be displayed proudly in homes. Stars representing five branches of the U.S. Military are in the foreground, while a circle provides an additional reference to Native Americans. Inscriptions are “NATIVE AMERICANS – DISTINGUISHED MILITARY SERVICE SINCE 1775,” “$1,” and “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.” AIP Designer Donna Weaver created the design, which Chief Engraver Joseph Menna sculpted.an additional reference to Native Americans. Inscriptions are “NATIVE AMERICANS – DISTINGUISHED MILITARY SERVICE SINCE 1775,” “$1,” and “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.” AIP Designer Donna Weaver created the design, which Chief Engraver Joseph Menna sculpted.
The obverse retains the central figure of Sacagawea carrying her infant son, Jean Baptiste, by sculptor Glenna Goodacre. Inscriptions are “LIBERTY” and “IN GOD WE TRUST.” The year, mint mark, and “E PLURIBUS UNUM” are incused on the edge of the coin.

The $1 coin, silver medal, bronze medal, and stamp are displayed in a custom-designed folder with slip case. The Certificate of Authenticity is printed on the back of the packaging.
The obverse (heads) of the George H.W. Bush $1 Reverse Proof Coin was designed by United States Mint Artistic Infusion Program (AIP) Designer Elana Hagler and sculpted by Chief Engraver Joseph Menna. The design features the likeness of President Bush with the inscriptions “GEORGE H.W. BUSH,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” “41st PRESIDENT,” “and “1989-1993.”
The coin’s reverse (tails), designed and engraved by former Mint Lead Engraver Don Everhart, depicts a striking rendition of the Statue of Liberty, with the inscriptions “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “$1.” “2020,” “S” (mint mark), and “E PLURIBUS UNUM” are incused on the coin’s edge.
The Presidential Silver Medal is 99.9 percent silver and features the same designs as the Bush Presidential Bronze Medal. Designed and engraved by former Chief Engraver John Mercanti, the obverse features the President’s portrait with the White House in the background. The inscription “GEORGE BUSH” is centered along the top left border.
The medal’s reverse was designed and engraved by former Medallic Artist Chester Martin. The design depicts the Presidential Seal, flanked by draped, burning torches of liberty. The inscription “OUR TIME IS A TIME OF HISTORIC CHANGE, WHEN MEN AND NATIONS CAN TRANSFORM HISTORY” is centered at the top of the medal. The inscription “INAUGURATED JANUARY 20, 1989” is centered along its lower border.
The Barbara Bush First Spouse Bronze Medal bears the same central image as the First Spouse Gold Coin issued in her honor. The obverse depicts a portrait of Mrs. Bush with the inscriptions “BARBARA BUSH,” “41st,” and “1989-1993.” The design was created by AIP Designer Benjamin Sowards and sculpted by Mint Medallic Artist Phebe Hemphill.
The reverse depicts a person reading, with an open road symbolizing literacy, knowledge, and life’s journey. The sun represents the promise of a brighter future. The reverse design was created by AIP Designer Barbara Fox and sculpted by former Mint Medallic Artist John P. McGraw.

This beautifully crafted set is one of several products the Mint is issuing this year to mark the 35th anniversary of the American Eagle Coin Program. The 2021 American Eagle Silver Reverse Proof Two-Coin Set Designer Edition contains one coin with the original American Eagle Silver Coin designs and one coin with the new designs. A Certificate of Authenticity is included. The original design coins were struck at the West Point Mint, and the new design coins were struck at the San Francisco Mint. Both coins are 99.9 percent silver.
The obverse (heads) of the coin featuring the original design displays Adolph A. Weinman’s full-length figure of Liberty in full stride, enveloped in folds of the flag, with her right hand extended and branches of laurel and oak in her left. The coin’s reverse (tails) depicts former Chief Engraver John Mercanti’s rendition of a heraldic eagle, with shield, an olive branch in the right talon and arrows in the left. WASHINGTON – The United States Mint (Mint) will accept orders for the redesigned 2021 American Eagle One Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin produced at the West Point Mint beginning on September 9 at noon EDT. Production of this coin is limited to 175,000 units, and orders are limited to three coins per household for the first 24 hours.
The American Eagle Silver Uncirculated Coin is the collector version of the official United States Mint American Eagle Silver Bullion Coin. Produced since 1986, this coin has been updated with a refreshed obverse (heads) and a completely redesigned reverse (tails) to mark the 35th anniversary of the American Eagle Coin Program.
Like its bullion counterpart, the obverse of the American Eagle Silver Uncirculated Coin features sculptor Adolph A. Weinman’s full-length figure of Liberty in full stride, enveloped in folds of the flag, with her right hand extended and branches of laurel and oak in her left. Using technological advancements, the coin has been redesigned to encompass some of Weinman’s original details, which renders a closer reflection of his original vision, including the addition of his traditional artist mark. Inscriptions are “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and “2021.”
The redesigned reverse was created by United States Mint Artistic Infusion Program Designer Emily Damstra and sculpted by United States Mint Medallic Artist Michael Gaudioso. The American Innovation $1 Coin Program is a multi-year series featuring distinctive reverse (tails) designs that pay homage to America’s ingenuity and celebrate the pioneering efforts of individuals or groups from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. territories.
The New York $1 Coin honors the Erie Canal. Considered an engineering marvel of its day, the canal unlocked the western interior for trade and settlement, and played a critical role in the development of the state as well as the Nation. The reverse design depicts a packet boat being pulled from a city in the east toward the country areas to the west. Inscriptions are “UNITED STATES of AMERICA” and “NEW YORK.” The design was created by Mint Artistic Infusion Program (AIP) Designer Ronald D. Sanders and sculpted by Mint Medallic Artist Phebe Hemphill.
The obverse (heads) of all coins in this series features a dramatic representation of the Statue of Liberty in profile with the inscriptions “IN GOD WE TRUST” and “$1.” It also includes a privy mark of a stylized gear, representing industry and innovation. WASHINGTON – The United States Mint (Mint) will accept orders for the 2021 American Eagle One Ounce Palladium Proof Coin™ beginning on Sept. 2 at noon EDT. Production of this coin is limited to 12,000, with orders limited to one per household for the first 24 hours of sales.
Struck in one ounce of 99.95 percent palladium, this coin is the collector version of the official United States Mint American Eagle One Ounce Palladium Bullion Coin, which launched in 2017. The finish on this recurring collector coin changes each year. In 2018, the Mint issued a proof finish palladium coin followed by a reverse proof finish coin in 2019 and an uncirculated finish coin in 2020. The 2021 coin will return to a proof finish.
Palladium coin designs are based on those by famed coin designer and medallic artist Adolph A. Weinman. The obverse (heads) features a high-relief likeness of “Winged Liberty” from the “Mercury Dime” obverse. In keeping with the original coin, inscriptions are “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” “2021,” and Weinman’s distinct initials. The reverse (tails) features a high-relief version of Weinman’s 1907 American Institute of Architects Gold Medal reverse, which includes an eagle and a branch. Inscriptions are “UNITED STATES of AMERICA,” “$25,” “1 OZ. Pd (the chemical symbol for Palladium) .9995 FINE,” and “E PLURIBUS UNUM.”
Each coin is encapsulated and packaged in a satin-lined gray leatherette presentation case. A Certificate of Authenticity is included.

Early in 2021, the Mint made plans to offer the last day of production of 2021 classic design American Eagle and first day of production of the new design 2021 American Eagle Gold and Silver One Ounce Bullion Coins, produced at the Mint Facility at West Point, to Authorized Purchasers. These coins were to have a market-based premium consistent with the value associated with the last of one design and the first of a new design. Because single-day production goals of 200,000 classic design AE silver, 200,000 new design AE silver and 15,000 new design AE gold were not reached, the Mint can only offer these products as “last production runs” and “first production runs” because they were struck on multiple days. The single-day production goal of 15,000 classic design AE gold was reached on 04/08/21. This message also provides a chart that distinguishes each box by the date of strike for its contents.

WASHINGTON – The United States Mint (Mint) will accept orders for the 2021 American Liberty High Relief Gold Coin™ beginning on August 19 at noon EDT. Each coin contains one ounce of 99.99 percent fine, 24-karat gold. Mintage is set at 12,500 coins, with orders limited to one per household for the first 24 hours of sales.
American Liberty High Relief Gold Coins are produced at the Mint’s West Point facility and display modern interpretations of the representation of American Liberty. In 2021, the obverse (heads) portrays Liberty as a wild American Mustang horse, bucking off a western style saddle, evoking the throwing off of the yoke of British rule during the American Revolution. The horse is centered on a rising sun. Inscriptions include “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and “2021.” The design was created by United States Mint Artistic Infusion Program (AIP) Designer Beth Zaiken and sculpted by United States Mint Medallic Artist Craig A. Campbell.
The reverse (tails) depicts a dramatic view of an eagle about to land, with the inscriptions “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “1 OZ.,” “.9999 FINE GOLD,” “$100,” and “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.” The design was created by AIP Designer Richard Masters and sculpted by Medallic Artist Phebe Hemphill.

WASHINGTON – The United States Mint (Mint) will accept orders for 2.5 oz. silver medals honoring the U.S. Coast Guard starting on August 17 at noon EDT. This is the second release in the Mint’s United States Armed Forces Silver Medal Program. Production is limited to 10,000 medals, with orders limited to one per household for the first 24 hours.
The U.S. Coast Guard medal weighs 2.5 ounces, is two inches in diameter, and is struck in 99.9 percent fine silver. Each medal is encapsulated and comes with the Mint’s Certificate of Authenticity. The medal’s obverse (heads) design was created by United States Mint Artistic Infusion Program (AIP) Designer Richard Masters and sculpted by retired United States Mint Medallic Artist Michael Gaudioso. The design depicts a Coast Guard national security cutter at full throttle, speeding head-on toward the viewer. The inscriptions “U.S. COAST GUARD” and the Coast Guard motto “SEMPER PARATUS” (always ready) are arced around the upper border. The hull number identifies the cutter Hamilton, named for Alexander Hamilton.

The reverse (tails) design was created by AIP Designer Thomas Hipschen and sculpted by Mint Metallic Artist Renata Gordon. The design depicts two iconic symbols of the Coast Guard: a life preserver ring and the racing stripe mark, which is found on almost all Coast Guard craft. The racing stripes are depicted with a heraldic hatching tradition to indicate color, with horizontal lines indicating the color blue and vertical lines indicating red. The Coast Guard emblem, which is part of the racing stripe mark, is also in the center. Inscribed on the life preserver ring are the Coast Guard’s core values “HONOR,” “RESPECT,” and “DEVOTION TO DUTY.”

WASHINGTON — Today, the U.S. Department of the Treasury announced Alison Doone as the new Acting Director of the U.S. Mint. Doone previously served as Chief Administrative Officer at the Mint. Doone’s first day as Acting Director will be on October 1 as Director David J. Ryder leaves the bureau to pursue new opportunities.
