WASHINGTON — Today, the U.S. Department of the Treasury announced the appointment of Ventris Gibson to serve as Deputy Director of the U.S Mint. Ms. Gibson brings decades of senior federal service to the role and is a United States Navy veteran. She will serve as Acting Director, making her the first Black person to head this bureau.
“Ventris’ decades of federal service will be an asset to the U.S Mint and the dedicated workers who carry out its operations,” said Deputy Secretary Wally Adeyemo. “Her historic appointment reflects our ongoing commitment to building a qualified, diverse workforce at Treasury and its bureaus that will serve the American people well.”
“Thank you to the Secretary of the Treasury for entrusting me with this important responsibility,” said Ventris Gibson. “I am delighted to join the U.S. Mint and excited to continue connecting America through coins alongside the highly dedicated and professional workforce of this agency.”
Prior to joining the Mint, Ms. Gibson served as the Director of Human Resources for Washington, DC’s Department of Human Resources. During her tenure with the DC government, she provided executive oversight and execution of human capital programs and services for nearly 37,000 employees.
Ms. Gibson, a United States Navy veteran, also previously served as the Associate Deputy Assistant Secretary for Human Resources for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. In this capacity, she was responsible for the development, articulation, and delivery of Department-wide human resources policies, plans, and programs.
Ms. Gibson’s career with the Federal government also includes the Federal Aviation Administration where she served as the Assistant Administrator for Human Resources and in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) as the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Human Resource Management and its first Deputy Assistant Secretary for Resolution Management. She was VA’s highest-ranking woman veteran and directed human resources management and civil rights programs affecting 230,000 employees.
With a career that spans more than 40 years in both human resources executive and professional positions, Ms. Gibson is the recipient of numerous awards and commendations. She has received the Exceptional and Meritorious Service Awards, FAA Manager Association’s Leadership Award, National Hispanic Coalition’s President’s Award, and the Northern New Jersey Metropolitan Area’s prestigious “Woman of the Year” award.
A graduate of the Federal Executive Institute, Executive Technique, and Aspen Institute, Ms. Gibson attended the University of Maryland, University College. Ms. Gibson has three children, 4 grandchildren, and 2 golden retrievers.

WASHINGTON – The United States Mint (Mint) will begin accepting orders for the 2021 editions of the Mighty Minters’ Ornament and the United States Mint Ornament on October 21 at noon EDT. Orders for both products are limited to 15 units per household for the first 24 hours of sales.
Crafted in solid brass and imitation rhodium, both ornaments feature the final coin in the America the Beautiful Quarters® Program with the familiar George Washington obverse (heads) design visible. “2021,” “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “LIBERTY,” and “IN GOD WE TRUST” appear on the obverse (heads) of the quarter, which has an uncirculated finish. Additional details are below.
Mighty Minters’ Ornament
This year, the ornament has a “Winter is Sweet” theme and highlights Mighty Minters Layla, a peahen, and Eli the fox, the Mint’s coin-collecting ambassadors. The America the Beautiful Quarters coin is centered between the Mighty Minters and two red and white candy canes. Priced at $27.95, this delightful ornament is perfect for gift-giving and will appeal to children and adults alike. The United States Mint Seal is engraved on the back of the ornament, along with “Made in the U.S.A.” and “©2021 U.S. Mint.” A silver-colored cord is attached.
The Mighty Minters&esquires; Ornament has festive red packaging that replicates the ornament design on the front. The back of the packaging lists descriptive information about the coin and Mighty Minters’ Layla and Eli, along with the Mint Director’s signature.
2021 United States Mint Ornament
This year’s ornament has a festive wreath-like design with a brilliant holly motif enhanced by two deer silhouettes on each side. The intricate and reflective holly design includes berries shaded in red and a stylized red ring that encircles the quarter. An engraved version of the United States Mint Seal is on the back of the ornament, along with “MADE IN THE U.S.A.” and “©2021 U.S. Mint.” This one-of-a kind ornament is suspended from a red ribbon and is priced at $29.95.
The United States Mint Ornament is displayed in a beautiful green box and includes a Certificate of Authenticity with information about the coin and the ornament. The United States Mint Seal and the words “2021 United States Mint Ornament” are hot stamped in silver foil on the top of the lid.

WASHINGTON – The United States Mint (Mint) will begin accepting orders for the 2021 American Innovation $1 Coin Proof Set on October 14 at noon EDT. The set is priced at $24.00.
The American Innovation® $1 Coin Program is a multi-year series featuring coins with distinctive reverse (tails) designs that celebrate America’s ingenuity and the pioneering efforts of individuals or groups from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. territories. The 2021 American Innovation $1 Coin Proof Set includes coins honoring innovations from New Hampshire, Virginia, New York, and North Carolina. Designs for these coins were created by United States Mint Artistic Infusion Program (AIP) Designers and sculpted by United States Mint Medallic Artists. Descriptions of the coins are below.
New Hampshire – The reverse depicts Ralph Baer’s brown box game “Handball” on the right side of the coin. The left side of the coin features “NEW HAMPSHIRE” and “PLAYER 1” on an incused background. “IN-HOME VIDEO GAME SYSTEM” and “RALPH BAER” encircle the outside of the coin in a text that is meant to pay homage to Ralph Baer’s Odyssey game. The additional inscription is “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.” The coin’s design is also symbolic of an arcade token. AIP Designer Christina Hess created the design, which was sculpted by Medallic Artist Eric David Custer.
Virginia – The reverse of this coin depicts a view of the Chesapeake Bay Tunnel as a cross section cut away, illustrating the ingenuity involved in constructing it. Inscriptions are “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “VIRGINIA.” AIP Designer Matt Swaim created this design, which Medallic Artist John P. McGraw sculpted.
New York – Created by AIP Designer Ronald D. Sanders and sculpted by Medallic Artist Phebe Hemphill, the reverse of this coin depicts a packet boat being pulled from a city in the East toward the country areas to the West. Inscriptions are “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “NEW YORK.”
North Carolina – This reverse features a stack of three textbooks with “First Public University” on the spine of the middle book. A lamp of knowledge is perched atop the books, and olive branches curve around the edge of the design. Additional inscriptions are “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “NORTH CAROLINA.” The design was created by AIP Designer Ronald D. Sanders and sculpted by Chief Engraver Joseph Menna.
The obverse (heads) of all American Innovation $1 Coins depicts a dramatic representation of the Statue of Liberty in profile with the inscriptions “IN GOD WE TRUST” and “$1.” The design also includes a privy mark of a stylized gear, representing industry and innovation. The inscriptions “2021,” “S” mint mark, and “E PLURIBUS UNUM” are incused on the coins’ edge. AIP Designer Justin Kunz created the design, which Medallic Artist Phebe Hemphill sculpted.
All coins in the set were struck at the Mint’s San Francisco facility. A Certificate of Authenticity is included.

WASHINGTON – The United States Mint (Mint) will accept orders for the newly redesigned 2021 American Eagle One Ounce Gold Uncirculated Coin beginning on October 7 at noon EDT. Production is limited to 9,100 coins. Orders are limited to one coin per household for the first 24-hour sales period.
Struck in 22-karat gold, the American Eagle One Ounce Gold Uncirculated Coin is the collector version of the official United States Mint American Eagle Gold Bullion Coin. For the first time in more than three decades, the coin displays a new, highly-detailed reverse (tails) design featuring a stunning portrayal of an eagle. Inscriptions are “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” “50 DOLLARS,” and “1 OZ. FINE GOLD.” The design was created by United States Mint Artistic Infusion Program Designer Jennie Norris and sculpted by United States Mint Medallic Artist Renata Gordon.
The obverse (heads) design features Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ full-length figure of Liberty with flowing hair, holding a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left. For the 2021 coin, the Mint returned to its original historical assets to render a closer reflection of Saint-Gaudens’ original vision and detail.
In addition to redesigning the reverse and enhancing design details on the obverse of the American Eagle Coins, the Mint introduced anti-counterfeiting features that include a reeded edge variation on the one ounce coin.
To complement the new designs, each encapsulated coin is packaged in a black presentation case with the United States Mint seal on the lid. The case fits into an outer sleeve incorporating an image of the reverse coin design, and the accompanying Certificate of Authenticity includes artwork of the obverse design.

WASHINGTON – The United States Mint (Mint) is pleased to announce the official designs for the first five coins in the American Women Quarters Program. Authorized by Public Law 116-330, this four-year program features coins with reverse (tails) designs emblematic of the accomplishments and contributions of trailblazing American women. Beginning in 2022 and continuing through 2025, the Mint will issue five quarters in each of these years. The ethnically, racially, and geographically diverse group of individuals honored through this program reflects a wide range of accomplishments and fields, including suffrage, civil rights, abolition, government, humanities, science, space, and the arts. The 2022 coins recognize the achievements of Maya Angelou, Dr. Sally Ride, Wilma Mankiller, Nina Otero-Warren, and Anna May Wong.
“These inspiring coin designs tell the stories of five extraordinary women whose contributions are indelibly etched in American culture,” said United States Mint Acting Director Alison L. Doone. “Generations to come will look at coins bearing these designs and be reminded of what can be accomplished with vision, determination and a desire to improve opportunities for all.”

Nina Otero-Warren—a leader in New Mexico’s suffrage movement and the first female superintendent of Santa Fe public schools

Common Obverse (Heads) Design
The obverse design of all coins in the American Women Quarters Program is by Laura Gardin Fraser, one of the most prolific female sculptors of the early 20th century, whose works span the art and numismatic worlds. Fraser’s design depicts a portrait of George Washington, which was originally composed and sculpted as a candidate to mark George Washington’s 200th birthday. Though recommended for the 1932 quarter, then-Treasury Secretary Mellon ultimately selected the familiar John Flannigan design. Inscriptions are “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and “2022.”

WASHINGTON – The United States Mint (Mint) today officially announced the designs for the 2022 American Innovation $1 Coin Program. This multi-year series that started in 2018 honors innovation and innovators by issuing $1 coins for each of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and the five U.S. territories. The Mint works with the Governor’s offices of each state, along with subject matter experts, to determine design concepts emblematic of innovation significant and meaningful to their jurisdiction and/or its role in the nation. Once the Secretary of the Treasury approves the design concepts, the designs are developed and reviewed. The Secretary of the Treasury selects the final design for each coin. The 2022 designs honor innovations and/or innovators from Rhode Island, Vermont, Kentucky, and Tennessee.
“From the birthplace of the industrial revolution to the first working offshore wind farm in America—innovation thrives in the Ocean State,” said Rhode Island Governor Dan McKee. “I’m proud that Rhode Island’s $1 coin pays tribute to our state’s manufacturing roots and sailing heritage.”
“I am proud to have snowboarding representing Vermont in the Innovation $1 program,” said Vermont Governor Phil Scott. “In many ways, Vermont is the birthplace of modern snowboarding, and this coin represents Vermont’s contributions to the sport, from physical innovations in boards and bindings to the creativity and athleticism showcased by Vermonters—and others who train in the Green Mountains—in competition on the world stage.”

American Innovation – Vermont

The Vermont $1 Coin features a young female snowboarder in the air performing a trick called a “melon grab,” set against a mountainous winter skyline inspired by the landscape of Vermont. The aim of the design is to capture a sense of the energy and exuberance of snowboarding through movement implied by diagonal lines and curved shapes. Inscriptions include “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “VERMONT.”
American Innovation – Kentucky

Currently an Associate Professor of African and African Diaspora History in the Department of History at Georgia State University in Atlanta, Dr. Fuller has taught at Connecticut College, Florida International University, and Emmanuel College. He was also a Visiting Scholar and Researcher at Boston University.
A coin and currency collector since his childhood years, Dr. Fuller is a member of the American Numismatic Association and the International Bank Note Society. His numismatic research has been highlighted in Coin World and the IBNS Journal, and in 2021, he spoke at the Metropolitan Coin Club of Atlanta, and his “Money Talks” presentation was featured at the American Numismatic Society. He is also the creator of the traveling museum exhibition, Black Money Exhibit: World Currencies Featuring African and African Diasporic History and Cultures; the Black Money Exhibit soundtrack; and the forthcoming documentary film, Black Women on Money.
Dr. Fuller holds a Ph.D. in International History and an M.Sc. (with Merit) in History of International Relations from the London School of Economics. He also holds a B.A. in International Studies, an M.A. in History, and a Certificate in Latin American Studies from the City College of New York. His notable awards include a Fulbright Global Scholar Award, a Whiting Public Humanities Fellowship, and an Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society Grant. During his graduate studies, he held the position of Research Assistant in the Department of Coins and Medals at the British Museum in London.
Dr. Fuller is also the producer of the award-winning documentary film Queen Nanny: Legendary Maroon Chieftainess (2015), which chronicles the history and legacy of the 18th century African-Jamaican anti-slavery leader, Nanny of the Maroons.
About the CCAC
The CCAC was established by an Act of Congress in 2003. It advises the Secretary of the Treasury on theme or design proposals relating to circulating coinage, bullion coinage, Congressional Gold Medals, and other medals produced by the United States Mint. The CCAC also makes commemorative coin recommendations to the Secretary and advises on the events, persons, or places to be commemorated, as well as on the mintage levels and proposed designs. The CCAC is subject to the authority of the Secretary of the Treasury. The United States Mint is responsible for providing necessary and appropriate administrative support, technical services, and advice.
The CCAC submits an annual report to Congress and the Secretary of the Treasury, describing its activities and providing recommendations.

WASHINGTON – The United States Mint (Mint) will begin accepting orders for the 2021 Limited Edition Silver Proof Set–American Eagle Collection on October 1 at noon EDT. Production is limited to 50,000, with orders limited to one per household for the first 24 hours of sales.
This exquisite set includes the following six proof quality coins:
- One American Eagle One Ounce Silver Proof Coin – New Design, “S” Mint mark
The obverse (heads) of this coin features a refreshed depiction of Adolph A. Weinman’s full-length figure of Liberty in full stride, enveloped in folds of the flag, with her right hand extended and branches of laurel and oak in her left. For the 2021 coin, the Mint returned to its original historical assets to render a closer reflection of Weinman’s original vision that includes the addition of his traditional artist mark.
The new reverse (tails) depicts a single eagle as it approaches a landing, carrying an oak branch as if to add it to a nest. Inscriptions are “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “1 OZ. FINE SILVER,” and “ONE DOLLAR.”
- One American Eagle One Ounce Silver Proof Coin – Classic Design, “W” Mint mark
The obverse features Adolph A. Weinman’s original Walking Liberty design depicting the full-length figure of Liberty in full stride, enveloped in folds of the flag, with her right hand extended and branches of laurel and oak in her left. Inscriptions are “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and “2021.” The reverse displays former Chief Engraver John Mercanti’s rendition of a heraldic eagle with shield, an olive branch in the right talon, and arrows in the left. Inscriptions are “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “1 OZ. FINE SILVER – ONE DOLLAR.”
- One America the Beautiful Quarters® Program Coin
The final quarter in this series honors the Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site in Alabama. The coin’s obverse (heads) depicts a restored 1932 portrait of George Washington by sculptor John Flanagan. Inscriptions are “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and “QUARTER DOLLAR.” The reverse depicts a Tuskegee Airman pilot suiting up to join the fight during World War II with the Moton Field control tower in the background. The pilot looks upward with pride and confidence as two P-51 Mustangs pass overhead. The inscription “THEY FOUGHT TWO WARS” is arced across the top as a reference to the dual battles the Tuskegee Airmen fought—fascism abroad and racial discrimination at home. Inscriptions are “TUSKEGEE AIRMEN,” “ALABAMA,” “2021,” and “E PLURIBUS UNUM.”
- One Washington Crossing the Delaware Quarter
The obverse marks a return to the familiar depiction of George Washington by John Flanagan as it appeared on the quarter from 1932 to 1998. It was modified for the 50 State Quarters and America the Beautiful Quarters Programs. In this depiction, Washington’s portrait is larger, with higher relief. Inscriptions are “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and “2021.” The reverse depicts General George Washington commanding his troops through the overnight crossing of the ice-choked Delaware River prior to the Battle of Trenton during the American Revolutionary War. Inscriptions are “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “CROSSING THE DELAWARE,” and “QUARTER DOLLAR.”
- One Kennedy half dollar
- One Roosevelt dime
The quarters, half dollar, and dime are struck in 99.9 percent silver. All coins are housed in a single lens and inserted in a black presentation case. A Certificate of Authenticity is included.
