Brian Yutzy Joins David Lawrence Rare Coins
David Lawrence Rare Coins (DLRC) is pleased to announce that Brian Yutzy has joined the Virginia Beach office as a Senior Numismatist and Buyer. Yutzy will be serving his existing clients as well as helping DLRC serve a wider base of customers throughout the country.
Mr. Yutzy comes to DLRC after spending over 30 years in the coin business, most recently for Heritage Auctions. According to Brian, “Coming to DLRC was a dream. We first spoke about working together over a decade ago and while life took us in different directions, when the opportunity presented itself to join the team at DLRC, it was an easy choice.”
John Brush, the President of David Lawrence Rare Coins, states, “Brian has always been a gifted numismatist with a diverse background in everything from buying generic gold, to classic U.S. coins, to variety expertise.” Brush added, “While we weren’t looking to add anyone to our staff, the growth of the company in the past 12 months necessitated the addition of someone that could help us add more coins to our overall offerings to collectors. So, when the opportunity to add Brian to the staff appeared, it just made sense.”
Yutzy’s interest in coins truly started as a fluke in 1989. While working two jobs, building roof trusses by day and selling insurance by night, he walked into Paul & Judy’s U.S. Coins just to buy some silver and walked out with a new job. The owner, Paul Schrock, saw great potential in Yutzy and had him travelling on the coin show circuit almost immediately! Coins had always been a passion and were second nature to Brian, something he enjoyed so much that it didn’t feel like work. After staying with Paul for a year and a half, Yutzy moved to Monroe, LA, and while working with his business partner Wayne Hummel, met his wife Julie of 18 years on a blind date. From there he moved to Houston, TX and worked with Kenny Duncan at U.S. Coins, where Yutzy says he handled some of the most fantastic coins in those ten years that he had ever seen. Following his time at U.S. Coins, Yutzy became a contract buyer for Heritage Auctions out of Dallas, TX for the past 10 years.
Now that Brian has become part of the DLRC team he added, “This is my last stop. John Brush has been a close friend of mine for a very long time and this opportunity was truly a dream come true.”

Bradford Launches Legacy Currency Grading
Well-known paper money authentication expert Jason W. Bradford and his team of experts launched Legacy Currency Grading (www.LegacyGrading.com), a new paper money grading and authentication service, on February 20, 2019.
Bradford, the founding and former President of PCGS Currency, stated: “Legacy Currency Grading will strive to improve the consistency and accuracy in grading for which my team has always been known. We will focus our primary efforts on excellent customer service and turnaround times, and we will be expanding our team. We’ve added both operational staff and additional grading experts to increase our capacity and help dramatically reduce turnaround times.”
Legacy Currency Grading will offer a warranty for all banknotes certified by its graders.“The guarantee for all Legacy graded notes will be as strong as ever, with all notes guaranteed for grade and authenticity by our lifetime grading warranty,” explained Bradford.
“In addition, to ensure the continuity and stabilization of the market, Legacy Currency Grading will continue to honor the same grading guarantee for all notes that K3B, Inc. certified from February 4, 2009 until January 30, 2019, under the license for the PCGS Currency brand name from Collectors Universe, Inc. The Legacy Currency Grading population report will also include all notes graded under that same license,” he added.
In order to make the transition as smooth as possible for all collectors and dealers, Legacy Currency Grading will be offering a discounted “crossover” service for all notes graded under the previous brand name.
“For a limited time, we will be offering a special rate for our clients to reholder their notes into Legacy Currency Grading holders,” said Bradford. “Details will be announced in the near future regarding the procedures for submitting notes, including the ‘crossover’ service.”
Legacy Currency Grading is also launching a new holder design featuring a fully sealed holder with the grading insert inside the tamper-proof Mylar plastic.
“This holder design is the result of several years of market research. The Legacy Currency Grading holder will be made of the same acid-free Mylar material used by generations of collectors and dealers. We are extremely excited about this new holder because I believe that this is the safest material for the long term storage of any banknote, and we won’t compromise by using anything but the highest archival quality materials for our holders,” stated Bradford.
Existing grading submissions that were previously submitted to K3B, Inc. now will be graded by Legacy Currency Grading.
“We will be contacting all clients in the immediate future regarding the details of their submissions and the estimated time frame for completion. However, if any client prefers that their notes be returned ungraded and their fees refunded, we will, of course, honor that request,” said Bradford. “In addition, all current memberships from the old service will be honored and extended in the new Legacy Membership program.”
Bradford is a pioneer in the paper money grading profession, personally examining, authenticating and grading more than a million banknotes since 2005. He will continue to lead the new company as President and CEO.
“It is extremely important for me to focus my energies primarily on grading and training our other graders. The day-to-day operations of the company and customer service will be overseen by our management team, which will free me and the other graders to focus on doing what we do best—grading banknotes. We are optimistic and excited about the future of the currency collecting hobby and the marketplace. Legacy Currency Grading will provide the best and most efficient customer service, and the most accurate and consistent grading process possible,” Bradford pledged.
Information regarding submitting banknotes for grading and authentication to Legacy Currency Grading will available soon at www.LegacyGrading.com, or by calling the Legacy office at 309-222-8200, or by email at info@LegacyGrading.com.
Nominate an anti-counterfeiting crusader
(Temecula, California) February 19, 2019 – Do you know someone who has actively helped in the fight against counterfeit coins, banknotes and/or fake third-party encapsulation holders the past year? The Anti-Counterfeiting Educational Foundation (ACEF) is seeking nominees for its third annual Alan Kreuzer Memorial Award.
“This award is a prestigious honor to recognize the vigorous anti-counterfeiting efforts of collectors, dealers, law enforcement agents or others who are diligently trying to protect the numismatic marketplace,” said ACEF Executive Director Robert Brueggeman.
“Previous recipients have included individuals who helped catch counterfeiters or identified suspects selling fakes, or significantly helped combat counterfeiting by generously donating to the foundation,” explained Brueggeman.
The award is named after the late Alan “Al” Kreuzer, a Castro Valley, California coin dealer who was instrumental in alerting the hobby to help identify counterfeit third-party certification holders and fake insert labels. After his death in 2016, his daughter, Chandra, donated $50,000 to help establish the Anti-Counterfeiting Task Force that now is part of ACEF.
The deadline for nominating a candidate for the 2019 Kreuzer Award is May 31, 2019. Send the nomination to info@acefonline.org. Nominations must include the nominee’s full name, title and business affiliation, as well as nominee’s contact information and, of course, the reason he or she should be considered for the award.
The 2019 award will be presented during the Professional Numismatists Guild awards banquet on August 12, 2019, the eve of the American Numismatic Association World’s Fair of Money® in the Chicago suburb of Rosemont, Illinois.
The Anti-Counterfeiting Educational Foundation is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) corporation that oversees the Anti-Counterfeiting Task Force. Former award-winning editor Beth Deisher is ACEF Director of Anti-Counterfeiting and coordinates the work of more than 40 task force volunteers nationwide.
Among its many accomplishments last year, the foundation and its task force provided assistance in more than 30 active cases of counterfeit coins and precious metal bullion products being investigated by U.S. Customs and Border Protection, U.S. Homeland Security Investigations, U.S. Secret Service, and U.S. Treasury Department’s Office of Inspector General. One case involved the arrest of a suspect who possessed counterfeits that could have been sold for an estimated $48 million if they had reached the marketplace.
For additional information and to make a donation, contact the Anti-Counterfeiting Educational Foundation at its website www.acefonline.org, or at 28441 Rancho California Road, Suite 106, Temecula, CA 92590. The phone number is 951-587-8300.
