2019 American Innovation $1 - New JerseyThe New Jersey American Innovation $1 Coin is the third of four American Innovation $1 Coins the Mint is releasing in 2019. Its reverse (tails) design pays homage to the development of a lightbulb with a filament that could last 1,200 hours. The design depicts an Edison bulb against an ornate background with the inscriptions “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “NEW JERSEY.” The obverse (heads) features a dramatic representation of the Statue of Liberty in profile with the inscriptions “IN GOD WE TRUST” and “$1.” The obverse also includes a privy mark of a stylized gear, representing industry and innovation. “2019,” the mint mark, and the inscription “E PLURIBUS UNUM” are incused on the edge of the coin.

United States Mint’s Last America the Beautiful Quarters Three-Coin Set of 2019 on Sale Nov. 26

The quarters in this set (product code 19AH) pay homage to Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness in Idaho.

This America the Beautiful Quarters Three-Coin Sets consist of an uncirculated quarter from the Philadelphia Mint, an uncirculated quarter from the Denver Mint, and a proof quarter from the San Francisco Mint. Quarters in the set honor Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness and feature a reverse (tails) design that depicts a piloted drift boat on the rushing river encompassed by the trees and rock formations of the Wilderness. Inscriptions are “RIVER OF NO RETURN,” “WILDERNESS,” “IDAHO,” “2019,” and “E PLURIBUS UNUM.” Pricing is set at $9.95.

The obverse (heads) of the coins depicts the 1932 portrait of George Washington by John Flanagan, which has been restored to bring out subtle details and the beauty of the original model. Inscriptions are “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and “QUARTER DOLLAR.”

The three coins are mounted on a durable plastic card with an image of Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness. A Certificate of Authenticity is printed on the back of the card.

New Appointee Joins Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee

Dr. Lawrence S. BrownWASHINGTON — The United States Mint today announced the appointment of Dr. Lawrence S. Brown to the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee (CCAC) as a member representing the interests of the general public in the coinage of the United States.

This appointment for a statutory term of four years will fill the vacancy on the CCAC created by the term expiration of Erik Jansen.

A life-long numismatist, Dr. Brown traces his fascination with coins back to his adolescence in Brooklyn, New York, where he found himself stimulated by the various ways in which history could be captured on such a small canvas.

Dr. Brown serves as Associate Physician at the Rockefeller University Hospital and Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine and Healthcare Policy and Research, Weill Medical College, Cornell University. He is Chief Executive Officer at START Treatment and Recovery Centers in Brooklyn, New York.

He received a combined M.D. from the New York University School of Medicine and Masters in Public Health from the Columbia University School of Public Health. He completed an internal medicine residency at Harlem Hospital and a neuroendocrinology fellowship at the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons.

Dr. Brown served as a member of the Drug Testing Advisory Board of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration and is currently a member of New York State’s Public Health and Health Planning Council and the Behavioral Health Services Advisory Council.

The CCAC was established by an Act of Congress in 2003. It advises the Secretary of the Treasury on theme or design proposals relating to circulating coinage, bullion coinage, Congressional Gold Medals, and other medals produced by the United States Mint. The CCAC also makes commemorative coin recommendations to the Secretary and advises on the events, persons, or places to be commemorated, as well as on the mintage levels and proposed designs.

The CCAC is subject to the authority of the Secretary of the Treasury. The United States Mint is responsible for providing necessary and appropriate administrative support, technical services, and advice. The CCAC submits an annual report to Congress and the Secretary of the Treasury, describing its activities and providing recommendations.

Final Presidential Silver Medal of 2019 on Sale Nov. 18

John Quincy Adams Presidential Silver MedalWASHINGTON – The United States Mint (Mint) will begin accepting orders for the John Quincy Adams Presidential Silver Medal (product code S806) on November 18 at noon EST. This is the sixth release in the Presidential Silver Medal series and the final medal of 2019.

Priced at $39.95, this medal is struck in 99.9 percent fine silver and features Adams’s portrait on the obverse (heads). Inscriptions are “JOHN QUINCY ADAMS,” “PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES” and “1825.” Moritz Furst, an early nineteenth century medallic artist, designed and sculpted the obverse.
The medal’s reverse (tails) features the inscription “PEACE AND FRIENDSHIP,” symbolized by two hands clasped in a token of amity. On the cuff of the left wrist are three stripes and buttons, while the other wrist is bare. Above the hands, the pipe of peace and tomahawk are crossed over each other. The reverse was designed and sculpted by John Reich, United States Mint Assistant Engraver in the early nineteenth century.

Each medal is encapsulated and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.

United States Mint Launches 50th America the Beautiful Quarters® Program Coin

2019 America The Beautiful Quarters - River Of No Return Wilderness - IdahoSALMON, IDAHO – The United States Mint (Mint) today officially launched the America the Beautiful Quarters® Program coin honoring Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness in Idaho. This is the fifth and final quarter of 2019, and the 50th coin overall in the program.

Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness comprises rugged mountains, deep canyons, and wild whitewater rivers, including the Main Salmon River and Middle Fork of the Salmon River. The reverse (tails) design of the quarter representing this site depicts a piloted drift boat on a rushing river encompassed by the trees and rock formations of the wilderness.

During the ceremony, Mint Director David J. Ryder expressed his sentiments about the new quarter, saying it “serves as a reminder of the essence of the Wilderness-more than two million acres of prehistoric mountains, fertile conifers and commanding rivers but flourishing with stories of heritage and wonder.”

The live-streamed ceremony included guest speakers Mike Simpson, U.S. Representative of Idaho’s 2nd Congressional District; Larry LaRocco, former U.S. Representative of the 1st Congressional District; Kathryn Hitch, Regional Director for U.S. Senator Mike Crapo; Amy Taylor, Regional Director for U.S. Senator James Risch; Charles Mark, Supervisor of Salmon-Challis National Forest; and John Burns, former Forest Supervisor of Salmon National Forest, who served as master of ceremonies. The Mint’s customary coin exchange rounded out the event.

The Mint released collectible rolls and bags containing Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness quarters on November 4. The America the Beautiful Quarters® Program is a 12-year initiative that honors 56 national parks and other national sites authorized by Public Law 110-456. The Mint is issuing these quarters in the order in which the national sites were officially established.

American Innovation 2019 $1 Reverse Proof Coin - DelawareWASHINGTON – The 2019 United States Mint (Mint) American Innovation $1 Reverse Proof Coin honoring innovation from Delaware will be available for purchase on November 7 at noon EST. Delaware is the first state to be honored in this series.

The coin has a frosted background, and a brilliant, mirror-like finish. Its reverse (tails) design features a silhouette of Dover native Annie Jump Cannon against the night sky, with a number of stars visible in the sky. The inscriptions are “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “ANNIE JUMP CANNON,” “CLASSIFYING THE STARS,” and “DELAWARE.” The obverse (heads) design features a dramatic representation of the Statue of Liberty in profile with the inscriptions “IN GOD WE TRUST” and “$1.” The obverse also includes a stylized gear privy mark, representing industry and innovation. The edge-incused inscriptions are “2019,” the “S” mint mark, and “E PLURIBUS UNUM.”

An informational four-panel envelope houses the coin. The Certificate of Authenticity is embedded in the packaging.

Third 2019 United States Mint Youth-Oriented Product on Sale Oct. 31

Youth Coin and Currency Set 2019WASHINGTON – The United States Mint (Mint) will begin accepting orders for the 2019 Youth Coin and Currency Set™ (product code 19RX) on October 31 at noon EDT. This is the third of three new youth-oriented products the Mint is offering this year. There is a product limit of 25,000 for the 2019 Youth Coin and Currency Set.

This product marks the first time the Mint has offered a coin and currency set specifically for youth and features the Mighty Minters™ characters Timothy, Lina, Alex, Eli, and Layla. The set consists of a tri-fold presentation folder that holds the five 2019 American the Beautiful Program® quarters in a proof finish and a $2 Series 2009 note from the Federal Reserve Bank in either Cleveland, Atlanta, or Chicago. An attractive outer sleeve houses the folder. The Certificate of Authenticity is printed on the package.

The quarters in the set honor Lowell National Historical Park (Massachusetts), American Memorial Park (Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands), War in the Pacific National Historical Park (Guam), San Antonio Missions National Historical Park (Texas), and Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness (Idaho). $10 rolls of newly minted Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness quarters will be available for exchange following the ceremony. The Salmon High School Legacy Choir will provide entertainment.
