Apollo 11 50th Anniversary Currency Set

In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing, the Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) is pleased to introduce the Apollo 11 $50 Currency Set!

The Apollo 11 $50 Currency Set features an uncirculated, Series 2013 $50 Federal Reserve note, with a serial number beginning with “1969,” and an engraved representation of the famous “Buzz Aldrin on the Moon” photograph, taken July 20, 1969. The reflection in Aldrin’s visor – that includes Neil Armstrong, the United States flag, and the lunar lander – is embossed. The note is protected by a clear, acid-free, polymer sleeve, and the engraved print features a limited edition number that corresponds with the last four digits of the serial number on the $50 note.

The first day of sale for the Apollo 11 $50 Currency Set is Tuesday, July 16, 2019, at 12:00 p.m. (ET), and is limited to 6,000 units. This product is $85.95, with a discounted price of $82.95 for quantities of 10 or more. The 2019 $2 Rocketship features an uncirculated, Series 2013 $2 Federal Reserve note, with a serial number beginning with “2019.” The colorful packaging features fun facts for kids and an embossed rocket ship and moon in outer space. The $2 note is protected by a clear, acid-free, polymer sleeve.

To mark the Apollo 11 moon landing’s 50th anniversary, the Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) is pleased to announce the Apollo 11 50th Anniversary Commemorative Engraved Print Collection! This collection features three beautifully engraved prints: Mission, The Eagle Has Landed, and Giant Leap. Customers who subscribe are guaranteed to receive the full print collection at $17 per print, for a total price of $51. The first card, Mission, begins shipping the week of January 21, 2019. The Eagle Has Landed and Giant Leap will ship in spring and summer 2019, respectively.

On July 16, 1969, Apollo 11 launched from Cape Kennedy carrying Commander Neil Armstrong, Command Module Pilot Michael Collins, and Lunar Module Pilot Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin into outer space. Since the beginning of time, mankind has looked to the heavens for inspiration and discovery. These three commemorative prints — Mission, The Eagle Has Landed, and Giant Leap — celebrate an optimistic and inspirational event that secured our Nation’s leadership in space for generations to come and cherishes the triumph of the human spirit in the face of formidable odds.

Card 1 – MISSION: This print is symbolic of the United States Space Program’s mission leading up to the first manned moon landing and features an embossing of the Apollo 11 and the lunar surface, with an engraving of President John F. Kennedy and the inscription, “We choose to go to the moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard.”

Card 2 – THE EAGLE HAS LANDED: This print is emblematic of the historic proclamation “The eagle has landed” and features an engraving of President Richard M. Nixon with the inscription, “Because of what you have done, the heavens have become a part of man’s world. As you talk to us from the Sea of Tranquility, it inspires us to redouble our efforts to bring peace and tranquility to Earth.” This print also features an engraved representation of the famous “Buzz Aldrin on the Moon” photograph taken on July 20, 1969. The reflection in astronaut Aldrin’s helmet features astronaut Neil Armstrong, the United States flag, and the lunar lander. The background features the lunar module on the embossed surface of the moon.

Card 3 – GIANT LEAP: This print captures the historic moment as the world eagerly looked to the heavens and heard Neil Armstrong’s voice as he declared, “One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.” The design features engravings of Neil Armstrong saluting the United States flag and an embossed footprint on the lunar surface, which together represent the efforts of the United States Space Program leading up to the first manned, moon landing on July 20, 1969.
