WASHINGTON – The United States Mint will kick off the New Year with the release of the 2018 American Eagle One Ounce Silver Proof Coin (product code 18EA) on January 4, at noon Eastern Time (ET).
Since its debut in 1986, the obverse (heads) of this coin has featured Adolph A. Weinman’s full-length figure of Liberty in full stride, enveloped in folds of the flag, with her right hand extended and branches of laurel and oak in her left. Its reverse (tails) continues to feature former Mint Sculptor-Engraver John Mercanti’s heraldic eagle with shield, an olive branch in the right talon and arrows in the left.
American Eagle One Ounce Silver Proof Coins are struck on 99.9 percent fine silver blanks and display the “W” mint mark indicating their production at the West Point Mint. Each coin is encapsulated and packaged in a satin-lined blue velvet presentation case with a Certificate of Authenticity.
