WASHINGTON–The United States Mint (Mint) today announced the Mayflower 400th Anniversary products it will offer, including some in collaboration with The Royal Mint (UK). The products are expected to be available later this fall.
The coin and medal designs come together to tell the story of the Mayflower’s historic voyage, the Pilgrims, and the impact the Pilgrims’ arrival had on the native Wampanoag people.
The four products in the United States Mint’s product portfolio include:
Two joint sets product options:
- A limited edition two-coin gold proof set, featuring a one-quarter ounce proof £25 coin from The Royal Mint, and one-quarter ounce proof $10 coin from the United States Mint (20XA).
- A limited edition silver set featuring a one ounce £2 silver coin from The Royal Mint (UK) and a silver medal from the United States Mint (20XB), both struck in proof finish in .999 fine silver.
Two single product options:
- The individual United States Mint gold coin (20XC) struck in a reverse proof finish.
- The individual United States Mint silver medal (20XD) struck in a reverse proof finish.
Limits on each of these product options will be available on the product pages this fall.
The United States Mint coins and medals, and the reverse of the UK coins, were all designed by United States Mint Artistic Infusion Program designer Chris Costello, who used multiple stylistic elements to tie the series together. These include the choice of font and North Star on the U.K. coin, which connects to the image of the sun in the U.S. coin, symbolizing a new day. That symbolism is also a reference to the Wampanoag people who inhabited the region, and were known as the “People of the Dawn.”
The U.S $10 Gold Coin obverse depicts a Wampanoag family watching from the border of the design as the Mayflower arrives from foreign shores. A young boy steps on the border, representing the intersection of the Wampanoag people in their Patuxet homeland and the Mayflower passengers. Inscriptions are “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “PATUXET,” and “$10.”
The U.S. $10 gold coin reverse depicts portraits of a Pilgrim man and woman, representing the beginnings of a transition from monarchy to democracy. The dual portraits symbolize a democratic organization, with their resolute expressions focused on a self-determined future. A pair of mayflower blossoms flank the design. Inscriptions are “1620,” “PLYMOUTH,” “2020,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” “UNITED STATES of AMERICA,” and “AU 24K 1/4 OZ.”
As with all UK currency, the obverse of the 24-karat gold coin and the .999 £2 silver coin from The Royal Mint (UK) feature the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Jody Clark. Costello’s reverse design on these coins depicts the Mayflower bursting out of the frame as it sails through the rough seas.
The silver medal obverse features a Mayflower family bracing against the cold and windy weather, foreshadowing their coming hardships, while the ship is anchored in the harbor. A pair of mayflower blossoms flank the design. Inscriptions are “A CIVIL BODY POLITICK,” “1620- 2020,” and “MAYFLOWER COMPACT.”
The silver medal reverse depicts a Wampanoag man and woman employing a planting technique used to grow several crops that were staples for the Wampanoag people. This method helped keep the soil healthy, maintaining the resources for annual plantings and successful harvests. The inscription “SUSTAINERS OF LIFE” recalls not only this sustainable planting technique, but also the critical skills the Wampanoag people afforded to the Pilgrims by teaching them how to successfully plant and harvest the land. The additional inscription is “PEOPLE OF THE DAWN.”

The American Innovation™ $1 Coin Program is a multi-year series featuring distinctive reverse (tails) designs that pay homage to America’s ingenuity and celebrate the pioneering efforts of individuals or groups from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. territories. The Connecticut $1 Coin recognizes the Gerber Variable Scale. The design depicts the scale being used to increase a geometric shape by 200 percent, a shape that resembles the state of Connecticut. Inscriptions are “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “GERBER VARIABLE SCALE,” and “CONNECTICUT.”
American Innovation – Massachusetts
The Massachusetts $1 Coin recognizes the invention of the telephone. The design depicts the dial of an early rotary telephone. Inscriptions are “MASSACHUSETTS,” “TELE-PHONE,” and “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.”
American Innovation – Maryland
The Maryland $1 Coin recognizes the Hubble Space Telescope. The design depicts the telescope orbiting the earth surrounded by a field of stars. Inscriptions are “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “THE HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE,” and “MARYLAND.”
American Innovation – South Carolina
The South Carolina $1 Coin recognizes educator and civil rights activist Septima Poinsette Clark. The design depicts Ms. Clark marching with three young African American students who carry books and an American flag, representing that education and literacy among oppressed people are necessary for empowerment and enjoyment of civil rights. Inscriptions are “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “SEPTIMA CLARK,” and “SOUTH CAROLINA.”
Coins in the 2020 American Innovation $1 Coin Proof Set feature a common obverse (heads) design that depicts a dramatic representation of the Statue of Liberty in profile with the inscriptions “IN GOD WE TRUST” and “$1.” The obverse also includes a privy mark of a stylized gear, representing industry and innovation. WASHINGTON–The United States Mint (Mint) 2020 America the Beautiful Quarters Circulating Coin Set™ will be available for purchase beginning on October 8 at noon EDT. This is the final five-coin set in the America the Beautiful Quarters® Program, which ends in 2021.
This set contains five circulating coins from the Philadelphia Mint and five circulating coins from the Denver Mint with reverse (tails) designs honoring the National Park of American Samoa, Weir Farm National Historic Site (Connecticut), Salt River Bay National Historical Park and Ecological Preserve (U.S. Virgin Islands), Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historical Park (Vermont), and Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve (Kansas).
The America the Beautiful Quarters coins feature a common obverse (heads) that depicts the restored 1932 portrait of George Washington by sculptor John Flanagan and the inscriptions “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and “QUARTER DOLLAR.”
The coins are held in a durable plastic card. The packaging allows the coins to be removed if desired.

The Mint launched the America the Beautiful Quarters Program in 2010 as authorized by Public Law 110–456, the America’s Beautiful National Parks Quarter Dollar Coin Act of 2008 (Act). The Act called for the Mint to issue 56 quarter-dollar coins with reverse designs depicting national parks and other national sites in each state or territory and the District of Columbia. 2020 marks the 11th year of the program. A final coin will be issued in 2021, marking the program’s conclusion.

WASHINGTON – The United States Mint (Mint) today unveiled new reverse (tails) designs for bullion and collectible versions of American Eagle Gold and Silver Coins. 2021 marks the 35th Anniversary of the American Eagle Coin Program, and the new designs will begin appearing on these coins in midyear 2021.
“These beautiful designs build on the United States Mint’s heritage of artistic excellence and fortify the American Eagle Coin Program’s status as an icon in the numismatic and art worlds,” said Mint Director David J. Ryder.
Redesigned American Eagle Gold Reverse
The design depicts a portrait of an eagle. Inscriptions are “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” “50 DOLLARS,” and “1 OZ. FINE GOLD.” Mint Artistic Infusion Program (AIP) designer Jennie Norris created the design that was sculpted by Mint Medallic Artist Renata Gordon.
Ms. Norris, a former volunteer raptor handler, drew inspiration for her design from her deep connection with wildlife, noting that, “The American Eagle is such a noble bird. I was hoping to capture the intensity of his stare through the close cropping. His gaze speaks of pride and wisdom passed down through generations of time.”
Redesigned American Eagle Silver Reverse
The design depicts a single eagle coming in for a landing, carrying an oak branch as if to add it to a nest. Inscriptions are “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “1 OZ. FINE SILVER,” and “ONE DOLLAR.” AIP designer Emily Damstra created the design, which was sculpted by Mint Medallic Artist Michael Gaudioso.
Reflecting on her design, Ms. Damstra commented: “My inspiration for this design grew from a desire to show our national bird—with all of the values it embodies—in a unique way that could also convey traits such as diligence, cooperation, care, and protection.”
The obverses (heads) of the redesigned American Eagle Gold and Silver Coins will continue to bear versions of the historic designs that have been featured on these coins for more than three decades. The gold coin obverse will display a refreshed depiction of the 1907 design by renowned sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens, while the obverse of the silver coin will display a refreshed depiction of the 1916 “Walking Liberty” design by famed sculptor Adolph A. Weinman.
The San Francisco-minted 2020 American Eagle One Ounce Silver Proof Coin (20EM) and the West Point-minted 2020 American Eagle One Ounce Gold Uncirculated Coin (20EH) will be the last issues of these coins featuring the current design.

WASHINGTON–The United States Mint (Mint) will begin accepting orders for the 2020 American Eagle One Ounce Palladium Uncirculated Coin (product code 20EK) on September 24 at noon EDT.
The coin contains one ounce of 99.95 percent palladium and is the collector version of the official United States Mint American Eagle One Ounce Palladium Bullion Coin, which launched in 2017. Finishes on collector coins in this program may alternate each year. In 2018, the Mint issued a proof finish palladium coin followed by a reverse proof finish coin in 2019.
Palladium coin designs are based on those by famed American coin designer and medallic artist Adolph A. Weinman. The obverse (heads) features a high-relief likeness of “Winged Liberty” from the “Mercury Dime” obverse. In keeping with the original coin, inscriptions are “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” “2020,” and Weinman’s distinct initials. The coin’s reverse (tails) features a high-relief version of Weinman’s 1907 American Institute of Architects Gold Medal reverse design, which includes an eagle and a branch. Inscriptions are “UNITED STATES of AMERICA,” “$25,” “1 OZ. Pd .9995 FINE,” and “E PLURIBUS UNUM.” Pd is the chemical symbol for palladium.
Each coin is encapsulated and packaged in a satin-lined gray leatherette presentation case. A Certificate of Authenticity is included.

WASHINGTON – The United States Mint (Mint) will begin accepting orders for the America the Beautiful Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin™ honoring Salt River Bay National Historical Park and Ecological Preserve in the U.S. Virgin Islands on September 18 at noon EDT. The coin is priced at $178.25. Production of this coin is capped at 13,750 units. There is no household order limit.
The coin’s reverse (tails) depicts a red mangrove tree in an early stage of its life cycle, as it evolves from a very small plant to an adult tree. The design brings awareness to the park’s endangered mangrove forests and the unique and delicate nature of how the species reproduces in salt water. Inscriptions include “SALT RIVER BAY,” “U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS,” “2020,” and “E PLURIBUS UNUM.” The coin’s obverse (heads) features a 1932 restored portrait of George Washington.

WASHINGTON–The United States Mint (Mint) and The Royal Mint (United Kingdom) have collaborated to create two limited-edition sets marking the 400th anniversary of the Mayflower voyage.
The story of the Mayflower is one that connects multiple communities, cultures, and countries. This transatlantic voyage brought 102 Pilgrims and migrants from Europe across the Atlantic and established a new foundation for governance in the New World.
The United States Mint and The Royal Mint have produced a joint two-coin gold proof set and a silver coin and medal proof set that will be released for sale this fall. The coin and medal designs come together to tell the story of the Pilgrims, the Mayflower‘s journey, and the impact the Pilgrims’ arrival had on the native Wampanoag people.
The 24-karat gold set features a one-quarter ounce proof U.S. $10 coin and a one-quarter ounce proof U.K. £25 coin. The silver ounce-proof £2 coin and medal set are struck in .999 fine silver.

WASHINGTON – The United States Mint (Mint) will begin accepting orders for colorized Basketball Hall of Fame Commemorative Coins on August 28 at noon EDT. The colorization will be featured on the reverses (tails) of the Basketball Hall of Fame Silver Dollar and the Basketball Hall of Fame Clad Half Dollar. Mintage is set at 75,000 coins for each denomination.

These historic coins are the first in the Mint’s history to have color applied to their design elements. The reverse design of the colorized silver dollar depicts a basketball with black seams about to pass through a white net, with its rim rendered in a familiar orange hue associated with the sport and the Hall of Fame. Inscriptions are “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” and “ONE DOLLAR.”
The reverse design of the colorized half dollar depicts an orange basketball with black seams about to pass through a white net, with the basketball and net’s rim rendered in two distinct shades of the familiar orange hue associated with the sport and the Hall of Fame. Inscriptions are “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” and “HALF DOLLAR.”
The obverse (heads) design of all coins in the Basketball Hall of Fame Commemorative Coin Program portrays the fast pace, intensity, and hands-on action of a basketball game–the constant, competitive struggle for possession of the ball and the skill required to clear the hoop. The design features three players reaching for the ball in unison, reflecting how the sport of basketball has brought together diverse people around the world through a simple, universal, and unifying athletic experience. Their arms are slightly elongated to emphasize the full exertion of physical and mental energy required to excel in this sport. The rim and net are subtle background design elements complementing the three players. Inscriptions are “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and “2020.”
A Certificate of Authenticity accompanies each coin. A limited quantity of Certificates of Authenticity for each of the Basketball Hall of Fame Colorized Coins will be hand-signed and numbered by the Mint Director David J. Ryder. The signed and numbered Certificates of Authenticity will be randomly included in shipments for these products from the United States Mint’s fulfillment center.

WASHINGTON–The United States Mint (Mint) will accept orders for the Barbara Bush First Spouse Gold Coin starting on August 20 at noon EDT. This product is one of several being offered to honor former President George H. W. Bush and First Spouse Barbara Bush in accordance with Public Law 116-112.
Struck in one-half ounce of 24-karat gold, this exquisite coin will be available in proof (product code 20PB) and uncirculated (product code 20PC) finishes. The obverse (heads) depicts Mrs. Bush with the inscriptions “BARBARA BUSH,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” “LIBERTY,” “2020,” “41st,” and “1989-1993.”
The coin’s reverse (tails) depicts a person reading a book with an open road before them symbolizing literacy, knowledge, and life’s journey. The sun represents the promise of a brighter future. Inscriptions are “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “$10,” “1/2 OZ.,” and “.9999 FINE GOLD.”
Each coin is encapsulated and packaged in a custom-designed, highly polished, dome-chested, lacquered hardwood presentation case. A special Certificate of Authenticity with historical information and images of First Spouse Barbara Bush is included.
