WASHINGTON, D.C. — United States Mint (Mint) Director David J. Ryder will join Royal Canadian Mint President and CEO Marie Lemay to sign Certificates of Authenticity for the 2019 Pride of Two Nations Limited Edition Two-Coin Set™ on August 14, from 10:00 a.m. to noon, at the U.S. Mint booth (#1825) at the American Numismatic Association (ANA) World’s Fair of Money in Rosemont, Illinois.
The set was launched July 3rd and a limited number were reserved for ANA sales and signing. Mintage of this historic set is 110,000 units.
The ANA World’s Fair of Money runs from Tuesday, August 13th through Saturday, August 17th at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont.
The Set commemorates the nationhood of both countries with coins that capture their rich history, pride, and their close relationship as neighbors and friends. This unique product was developed through a partnership between the two Mints.
“I want to thank Ms. Lemay and her staff for their expertise and support in the first of what we anticipate will be more partnerships with Mints around the world,” said Director Ryder. “We are particularly proud to collaborate with our close neighbor and friend to the north.”

Priced at $139.95, the set contains a United States Mint American Eagle One Ounce Silver Coin with an enhanced reverse proof finish and a Royal Canadian Mint One Ounce Silver Maple Leaf Coin with a modified proof finish. The set comes with the first bilingual Certificate of Authenticity issued by the United States Mint.
The obverse (heads) of the American Eagle One Ounce Silver Coin features Adolph A. Weinman’s full-length figure of Liberty in full stride enveloped in folds of the flag, with her right hand extended and branches of the laurel and oak in he left. The coin’s reverse (tails) features a heraldic eagle with shield, an olive branch in the right talon and arrows in the left.
The obverse of the One Ounce Silver Maple Leaf Coin features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt on a radial lines background with a pattern of stars and maple leaves on the perimeter. The reverse features a maple leaf by Walter Ott on a radial lines background with a pattern of stars and maple leaves on the perimeter.

WASHINGTON, D.C. (August 7, 2019) — The Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) and the United States Mint (Mint) will share booth #1825 at the American Numismatic Association’s (ANA) World’s Fair of Money, August 13 – 17, 2019, at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, IL.
United States Mint Director David J. Ryder and BEP Director Len Olijar will participate in the official ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday, August 13, at 12:45 p.m. (ET), followed by a product signing event at booth #1825 from 1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. On Wednesday, August 14, Mint Director Ryder and Royal Canadian Mint President and CEO Marie Lemay will be available to sign certificates of authenticity for their new, joint product, Pride of Two Nations, from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. (ET).
The BEP is showcasing its Billion Dollar Exhibit featuring more than $1 billion worth of rare antique currency, including sheets of $100,000 currency notes, Treasury Bonds, and Gold and Silver Certificates. A BEP Plate Printer will also demonstrate currency production on a 19th century Spider Press. Also, a drawing will held for the opportunity to receive a special, engraved Apollo 11 50th Anniversary Moon Landing commemorative print.
In keeping with BEP’s tradition of creating distinct currency, the BEP is especially excited to offer the latest new product for sale:
2019 $2 Rocketship – In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing, the 2019 $2 Rocketship features an uncirculated, Series 2013 $2 Federal Reserve note, with a serial number beginning with “2019.” The colorful packaging features fun facts for kids and an embossed rocket ship and moon in outer space. (Long Beach, California) – An exhibit of rare, historic French coins described as the best and most comprehensive ever displayed in the United States will be showcased from the extensive Tyrant Collection (www.TheTyrantCollection.com) at the September 5-7, 2019 Long Beach Coin, Currency, Stamp & Sports Collectible Expo (www.LongBeachExpo.com).

Red Book Celebrities in the Spotlight
To recognize hobby icons and create a record of their contributions, the American Numismatic Association (ANA) conducts the Legacy Series – live interviews with notables in the coin community. The events, held in conjunction with ANA conventions, is intended to honor individuals who have profoundly influenced the hobby and to give listeners some insight into their lives, personalities and achievements.
The eleventh installment of this series will be presented on Thursday, Aug. 15, at 5 p.m. during the ANA World’s Fair of Money® at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center (Room 44) in Rosemont, Ill. The guests of honor will be Kenneth E. Bressett, editor emeritus of A Guide Book of United States Coins (the “Red Book”), and Jeff Garrett, who was named senior editor of the essential hobby reference in May 2018.
Conducted by Numismatist Editor-in-Chief Barbara Gregory, the interview will focus on their early years (including numismatic background and interests), their challenges and crowning achievements in the publishing world, how the Red Book has affected their careers and perspectives, what inspires them, and what’s in store for them, both personally and professionally.

Stephens Convention Center in the Chicago suburb of Rosemont, Illinois. It will be open to the public.
The show conveniently will be in the same location at 5555 N. River Road as the American Numismatic Association’s World’s Fair of Money® that begins the next day.

The Numismatic Literary Guild (www.NLGonline.org), a nonprofit organization composed of editors, authors and writers who cover news and feature stories about all forms of money, medals and tokens as collectibles, has announced its annual awards competition for 2019.
This year’s competition is being overseen by David Lange, the new NLG Awards Coordinator.
To be eligible for consideration in any of this year’s categories, entries must have been published, released, or posted on the Internet between May 1, 2018 and April 30, 2019. With the exception of the Portfolio category, three (3) copies of each entry must be submitted, and each copy must also be accompanied by a cover sheet listing the category and other information spelled out in the rules.
Only one entry per category is allowed per submitter. Each submission must be accompanied by a cover sheet or label attached to each entry copy and containing the following information:
- CATEGORY NUMBER
- CATEGORY TITLE
- NAME OF PUBLICATION
- TITLE OF SUBMISSION
- DATE OF PUBLICATION
- NAME, ADDRESS, TELEPHONE NUMBER AND EMAIL ADDRESS OF ENTRANT

This category is for video presentations lasting longer than 10 minutes. The submission criteria are the same as for No. 38.
40. Software or App
Best presentation of new numismatic-related software or mobile application published in CD-Rom, DVD, App Store or any other electronic format or electronic delivery system. For physical media, three copies of the work needs be submitted. For digitally distributed software or apps, three copies must also be provided, and if the entry is distributed on the Android or Apple store, written instructions must be provided about how to locate and download the app. Each entry must be accompanied by a written statement citing date(s) of first use.
SPECIAL AWARDS
41. Lee Martin Founder’s Award – Best All-Around Portfolio
Collection of writings and/or photographs and related items demonstrating numismatic writing ability and versatility published within the contest year. The emphasis is on quality, not quantity, and organization and presentation will count as heavily as volume. One copy of the portfolio entry needs to be submitted and can be submitted as PDF files on a flash or thumb drive. Items included in the portfolio may also be submitted in other relevant categories at entrant’s option.
42. Clement F. Bailey Memorial Award
This award was endowed by Jim Miller of Miller Magazines in memory of an especially beloved member of the numismatic writing community and NLG founder, Clement F. Bailey. This award recognizes excellence among new writers in numismatics whose first published writings in this field appeared in hobby publications during the previous year. Nominees are supplied solely by numismatic publishers.
43. The Ribbit
This award recognizes an individual who has achieved prominence in numismatics while maintaining approachability, a sense of humor and essential modesty. The winner is selected by the previous year’s recipient.
44. The Clemy
The winner of this award, the Guild’s highest honor, is chosen by the previous year’s recipient(s) from a list of nominees provided by the NLG Board of Directors.
NLG reserves the right to limit the number of plaques for any given entry, with the number to be determined at its discretion. NLG will provide plaques only for the persons named in an entry when it is originally submitted. Winners living in countries other than the United States, Canada and Mexico will receive certificates and cash awards, rather than plaques. The cash award will be $50 for first place winners.

Unprecedented display of over 400 ancient Roman and Papal coins from The Tyrant collection will be publicly exhibited together for the first time

Entitled “Tyrants of the Tiber,” this will be the fourth exhibition in a multi-year series of different displays of portions of the extensive Tyrant Collection, described as the world’s most valuable rare coin collection in private hands.
“There has never been such an extensive public exhibit of exquisite, ancient Roman gold coins in Southern California,” stated Ira Goldberg President of Goldberg Coins and Collectibles, Inc. Goldberg is one of the numismatic professionals providing guidance in assembling the wide-ranging Tyrant Collection of superb quality, historic U.S. and world coins.
“This unprecedented display will encompass the tyrants of Rome from the earliest Roman Republic portrait coins over 2,200 years ago through the Imperatorial and Empire Periods, and ending with the fall of Rome and the invading tribes. In addition, since the Vatican practically sits on the Tiber River, this amazing exhibit will include the coinage of the Popes,” explained Goldberg.
Most of the 400 coins in the exhibit are gold, including an extremely rare set of the famous 12 Caesars in gold with many of the coins recorded as the finest known. Goldberg described the set as “breathtaking.”
The entire Tyrants of the Tiber display will be insured for more than $30 million for its inaugural debut.
Highlights of the exhibit include:
- T. Quinctius Flamininus gold Stater, ca. 196 B.C., of the first living person to be depicted on a Roman coin. This nearly Mint State example is considered the finest of only eight known.
- Brutus, Proconsul and Imperator, 42 BC, EID MAR silver Denarius and probably the most celebrated of all the coins of ancient Rome. A portrait of Brutus is on the obverse with the reverse boldly exhibiting the celebration of the Ides of March murder of Julius Caesar. It is nearly Mint State and one of the finest examples in existence.
- Mark Antony and Cleopatra silver Tetradrachm struck in 36 BC in Syria. Cleopatra VII, the last queen of the Ptolemaic kingdom, remains to this day a colossal figure of legend as much as history. It is superb Extremely Fine condition and possibly the finest known example.
- Otho gold Aureus. He reigned only from January – April 69 AD. Struck at Rome and perhaps the most difficult of the 12 Caesars to obtain in choice condition. The Tyrant Collection coin is a superb, nearly Mint State specimen. Ex Metropolitan Museum, New York, and ex Boscoreale Hoard, 1895.
- Romulus Augustus, October 31 – September 476 AD, gold Solidus of Rome depicting the last line of Roman emperors in the West. All the coinage of Romulus Augustus is scarce and the gold solidi are extremely rare. This nearly Mint State specimen is probably the finest in existence.
- Justinian I, 527-565, gold Solidus struck in Rome. During his reign, Italy was liberated from the Goths and North Africa was recovered from the Vandals. This very rare Roman mint example is magnificent Mint State.
- Pope Alexander VI, gold Doppio Fiorino di Camera, Mint State. Born Rodrigo de Borja and Pope from August 11, 1492 until his death on August 18, 1503. He is one of the most controversial of the Renaissance Popes, partly because he acknowledged fathering several children by his mistresses.
- Pope Innocent XI, extremely rare Quadruple Scudi d’oro, Nearly Mint State. Born Benedetto Odescalchi, his papacy was from 1676 to 1689. He is known in Budapest as the “Savior of Hungary,” and much of his reign was concerned with tension with Louis XIV of France.
- Pope Innocent XII, Quadruple Scudi d’oro, Mint State. Born Antonio Pignatelli, his papacy was from 1691 to 1700. Innocent XII appears as one of the narrators in Robert Browning ‘s long, 1869 poem “The Ring and the Book,” based on the true story of the Pope’s intervention during his papacy in a famous murder trial in Rome.
The owner of The Tyrant Collection wants to remain anonymous while he shares the collection’s coins with the public for their educational value.
Visitors to the June 2019 Long Beach Expo exhibit (booth #1540) can receive a free, illustrated educational booklet about this latest, amazing display. Detailed catalogs with information and illustrations about each coin in the “Tyrants of the Tiber” exhibit will be available for $10 each.

Pittsburgh National Money Show Awaits Collectors
Coin collectors are enthusiastically anticipating the National Money Show in Pittsburgh, March 28-30. The three-day event, sponsored by the nonprofit American Numismatic Association, is expected to attract thousands of coin collectors from Pennsylvania and throughout the U.S. eager to buy, sell and see more than $100 million of historic numismatic treasures.
Nearly 200 coin dealers will be on hand offering the finest numismatic inventory available; the U.S. Mint also will be in attendance with numerous popular products. Many of the numismatic experts present will provide free, informal evaluations of the public’s old coins and paper money. Kagin’s, the official auctioneer of the show, will conduct a three-session live auction featuring a diverse selection of U.S. coins, world banknotes and U.S. currency. A plethora of educational presentations, family activities and fascinating exhibits round out the happenings.

Legacy Series acquaints collectors with the legends, heroes and icons of numismatics. - Coin-Collecting Basics: Saturday, Mar. 30, 12 p.m., Room 412 – This class covers the nuances of coins and paper money, and shares tips on how to collect smart.
- Coin Collecting 101: Thursday-Friday, Mar. 28-29, 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., Table 732 – Informal 30-minute discussions are intended for the numismatic newcomer, offering an introduction to the hobby and how to assemble a great collection.
- Young Collectors Corner: A Workshop for Children: Saturday, Mar. 30, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. (check-in starts at 8:30 a.m.), Room 406 – Experienced numismatists share basic information about the hobby, including coin identification and production. Scouts are required to wear their uniforms to be eligible to earn the “Coin Collecting” merit badge or the “Fun with Money” patch.
- Treasure Trivia: Thursday-Saturday, Mar. 28-30, Table 732 – Families and children learn about numismatics as they explore the bourse floor in search of answers to trivia questions. This free game is scheduled during public show hours.
Spectacular Exhibits
Museum Showcase features rare and historic items from the ANA’s Money Museum in Colorado Springs, Colo., and includes:
- The 1804 Draped Bust U.S. Silver Dollar: The “King of U.S. Coins” is one of only 15 known examples and is insured for $4 million.
- The 1913 Liberty Head Nickel: One of five known 1913 Liberty Head nickels made under mysterious circumstances at the Philadelphia Mint.
- Bebee Error Notes: Rarely seen specimens from the famous Bebee collection of paper currency and uncut notes.
- A 1933 $10 Eagle: In March 1933, President Franklin Roosevelt halted the release of gold coins from the Mint to help reverse the tide of the Depression. This act created noteworthy gold coin rarities, including the spectacular 1933 eagle.
- The 1943/44 Cent Case: In 1943, to save copper for World War II, the U.S. Mint produced Lincoln cents using steel instead of the normal bronze alloy. A few 1943 Lincoln cents were mistakenly made from left over 1942 bronze blanks instead of the zinc-coated steel creating an instant sensation. The same accident occurred in 1944 when the Mint returned to bronze cents – a few of the steel cent blanks were struck as 1944 cents. On display courtesy of the Dazzling Rarities Collection.

In 2015 the American Numismatic Association (ANA) introduced the ANA Legacy Series to recognize hobby icons and help create a record of their contributions. The series continues today, held in conjunction with ANA conventions. They consist of live interviews with notables in the coin community and honors individuals who have profoundly impacted the hobby, giving listeners a greater sense of the subjects’ lives and achievements.
The 10th installment of this series will take place on Thursday, March 28, at 3 p.m. during the ANA National Money ShowⓇ at Pittsburgh’s David L. Lawrence Convention Center (Room 414). In the spotlight will be the multifaceted artist and former United States Mint Engraver Don Everhart.
Born in York, Penn., in 1949, Everhart attended Kutztown State University where he obtained a degree in fine arts with a concentration in painting in 1972. He was hired by The Franklin Mint in 1973; he became a staff sculptor a year later and went on to execute coinage for Guyana, Jamaica and the Philippines.
Everhart left The Franklin Mint in 1980 to pursue a freelance career. His clients included The Walt Disney Company, Tiffany & Co., Georgetown University and the British Royal Mint. In 1994 he received the ANA’s Numismatic Art Award for Excellence in Medallic Sculpture.
In 2004 Everhart joined the staff of the U.S. Mint as a sculptor-engraver and later was promoted to lead sculptor. He designed the curved reverse of the 2014 Baseball Hall of Fame half dollar, $1 and $5; the reverse of the 2015 March of Dimes $1; the reverse of the 2006 Nevada State Quarter; and the reverse of the 2006 Benjamin Franklin $1. In addition, he designed more than 30 Congressional Gold Medals, and created and/or sculpted Presidential Medals for George W. Bush and Barack Obama.
World Coin News presented Everhart with its Lifetime Achievement Award in 2017 at the World Money Fair in Berlin, Germany. His work is represented in the permanent collections of the Smithsonian Institution, The British Museum, the American Numismatic Society and the National Sculpture Society. He served the American Medallic Sculpture Association as president in 1993-94.
Everhart retired from the U.S. Mint in July 2017 and today pursues his craft in West Chester, Pennsylvania.
